Why I Chose Tech:
Technology is part of almost everything we do, and I wanted to be a part of the group of professionals working to make technology safer and more secure for everyone to use. GRC (Governance, Risk, & Compliance) is a security domain every company needs to be thinking about, and I'm fortunate to have found my way into the field.

Advice for future #BlackInTech Professionals:
Networking is everything. Find people who are currently doing the jobs that you'd like to land, and really get to know them. Learn about their career paths, their educational backgrounds, and all the other differentiators that got them the roles they're in. Developing those relationships not only gives you a starting point for developing yourself but also can expose you to job titles or companies you may never have heard of otherwise.

Why I Chose Tech:
My passion comes from creating and improving things that have potential, not only in tech, but in general. I saw many role models in the tech industry that are improving our lives today, and that was enough to captivate me to follow this path. Regardless of how small the change is, as long as I know it contributes to a big improvement into something, I am more than happy to help.

Advice for future #BlackInTech Professionals:
"Keep learning and asking, and to not forget to look after yourself"

Why I Chose Tech:
My passion for tech stems from helping my dad, a mechanic fix things around the house. It sparked the curiosity in me to learn how and why things work the way they do. Due to my interests in video games and tech I gravitated towards engineering in software. It's very satisfying to know that my efforts help others live a better life. It's been the best decision I've made and I enjoy doing what I do every day.

Advice for future #BlackInTech Professionals:
Find a strong support system–it can be one person–to be there for you during the hard times and have faith that it will all be worth it in the end."

Why I Chose Tech:
My career in technology did not start with choosing it; it chose me. I received a call from a recruiter regarding a job opportunity. After the recruiter provided an overview of the role, I kindly informed her I was not the right candidate for this position. I finally said yes, I would interview for the job. This interview was not like the typical job interviews I’ve done in the past; they informed me they have a business problem that they need someone to solve. They placed a computer in front of me and asked how to solve it. At the end of the interview, we solved 95% of the problem. It was the best interview I ever had in my life because I was challenged and allowed to solve a problem. When they offered the job, I said yes. It was in that role that introduced me to someone that worked for someone who had a problem; do you see the theme here. The solution I provided introduced me to an opportunity to develop a model that measures aggregate risk exposures across the organization’s information technology. From that point, I stepped into the door called Technology.

Advice for future #BlackInTech Professionals:
A word of advice for up-and-coming black tech professionals is a word given to me, and it says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9).” Be willing to accept a challenge. Don’t be discouraged or lose hope when a door does not open. Cut fear from your life and welcome the possibilities that await you.

Why I Chose Tech:
My passion for Tech comes from the ability to support, inform and provide guidance to those looking to become dynamically efficient in their use of technology. I chose this career path because it helps keep myself informed on all the constant changes coming to the Tech industry day by day.

Advice for future #BlackInTech Professionals:
Embrace challenging times. Remain resilient and ambitious throughout your journey as it is not always going to be easy. Self-empowerment is key to one's success. Believe in you.
